My body is made of stone.
My soul, air.

Is there some ligament
that hooks your soul into your body?
I think I tore mine—
left it
tethered by an inch of flesh.

My soul is flapping in the wind.
The ligament’s straining.

I hope someone’s there
to catch it
when it breaks.

  1. Well, assuming that the soul is somewhere in the mind, there’s the philosophy of dualism that claims that the mind and matter are opposing parts. So, if you believe the mind and body are separate, and assume the soul takes residence in the mind, then maybe the soul is detached!

“My body if made of stone.”

    I love that line.

this whole poem. I love it!
