And Then Social Anxiety…

Given the breathy spectacle,
there wasn’t a need
for any kind of punctuation.

The light oppressing the room
lent it the appearance of jaundice,
real noxious, possibly toxic.

So was it really a surprise
when my face bore a similar mark?
You rose to the occasion,

as always,
with all the boldness
of an exclamation point.

You’ve got a real knack
for these situations,
which partially explains

my admiration of you.
Meanwhile, I was left stuttering
in the fathoms of fog…
